The Sprout e-course was born out of a question commonly asked at TIG: How can we work to enhance the effectiveness and impact of the activities of young leaders? In 2008, we decided to combine the knowledge and experience that our staff have acquired over the years with the expertise of a team of curriculum advisors, developers, evaluators and overall education nuts who all shared the same passion for helping out future generations of global change makers. After a year long pilot period, we officially and proudly launched Sprout – an e-course designed for aspiring social innovators and environmental entrepreneurs who want to grow their project ideas and learn to create lasting changes that take root in their communities.
The Sprout e-course uses the TIGed virtual classroom platform to engage young people from all over the world in a truly global education. Despite being a staff member who sits a short distance away from the developers who built TIGed, I admit that I was a bit nervous about using the platform for the first time. I wasn't really aware of a lot of the functionality and wasn't sure which features I wanted to include for the participants. I realized shortly, however, that the best way to get comfortable with the technology is to dive right in and play around using a test class. Once I was more familiar with the platform, I began to see all of the opportunities for the participants to engage with the material in different and new ways!
